My first photo was taken on the Marthas Vineyard ferry and I chose to put it in black and white to create mystery. This photo is composed of strong artistic aspects of lines, depth, and distance. The lines of the fence are kept in focus to draw the viewers eyes to behind the fence itself and towards the small island and water behind. This photo has a shallow depth of field because only the fence was chosen to be in focus. Also this photo focus's on foreground, middle ground, background; where the fence is the foreground, the water is the middle ground, and the island is the background. Although the fence is in focus and i stood close to it, distance was a factor because i needed to be very far away from the island in the background to capture it in the photo. I think all the view this photo will agree it gives a very mysterious and almost creepy feeling due to the fence almost acting as bars as one sails away from this distant island.
This photo is of myself and was taken to depict motion. I chose to keep this photo in color because i felt the colors were so rich and created a lighter feeling to the viewer. Artistically, this photo shows distance, depth of field, and the use of shutter speed. The photo clearly has foreground, middle ground, and background; my hair being the foreground, my body being the middle ground, and the rest of the photo as the background. A shallow depth of field was used to have only myself in focus. Also a really fast shutter speed was used to capture all aspects of my hair moving and left it all in focus. If i had used a slow shutter speed it would have left my hair as a blur as i moved it. I think this photo has a interesting point of view for the viewer because when someone moves their hair you don't necessarily see it in great detail like this photo. Due to the brightness in color i think this photo has a very happy and light feeling to it.
This picture was taken to show how shutter speed can affect the pictures we take. I used a very slow shutter speed on a tripod to create the focused background and the movement of the subject was then photographed as a blur. I chose to but this picture in black and white to create simplicity in a other wise busy photo. I also choose to not crop out the people in the background to show that they are in focus and make the picture more relate able to the viewer. this picture used foreground, middle ground, background to create the blurred person as the vocal point. The foreground is the person, the middle ground is the other people in the photo and the trees and the school are the background. This photo is not a normal point of view and allows the viewer to see what motion is like in slowed down. This photo was taken in hopes to make the viewer feel calm yet knowledgeable about motion.
For this photo i used a string of christmas tree lights to create the triangle effect showed in the photo. I created the effect by spinning the christmas lights around in a circle on a short shutter speed. This photo shows the rule of thirds by placing the focal point of the design in the middle of the picture. I also chose to keep this picture on color to show off the design the lights made as i twirled them. I used a very short shutter speed so i would be able to make the individual lights look like lines as you see above. i believe this picture creates a mysterious feel and draws the viewer in because of the unorganized yet uniform design the lights created.
I photographed a pile of leaves for this photo and took it from a very close distance. This picture shows texture as well as color. The different layers in the leaves created a dynamic look to the photo. i kept the photo in color vs. black and white because i wanted to show off the beautiful colors of fall. i used a shallow depth of field so that only the leaves in the center were in focus. I also used natural lighting from the sun to create natural shadows and lightness. this photo creates a interesting point of view by taking the viewer down to the level of leaves rather than how they normally are, walking over them. this photo gives the viewer a very calm feel and leaves them feeling one with nature.
I photographed a walking path in the woods for my last photo. The natural lighting from the sun rising created simple shadows of the trees and the sun also made the fallen snow shine brighter than normal. this picture has leading lines in the path and takes the viewers eyes through the photo. Pattern, lines, and rhythm can be found in the vertical lines of the trees and its repetition. This photo also takes on the concept of distance and depth of field. I took this photo at the beginning of the woods and allowed the photo to go back as far as my camera would allow. Also by using a large depth of field i was able to have all aspects of the picture in focus. i chose to keep this photo in color because is it were in black and white i would be much more dark and consuming were i wanted it to be cheerful and calming.
